Tenzing Norgay Youth Hostel is one of the cheapest hostels in Darjeeling. This hostel is located just 1 km from Darjeeling Railway Station. I would suggest If you are a fit and healthy person, then you should walk and go to the hostel. You will be fully exhausted but trust you will enjoy it. In case If you can't walk then you can take a taxi to reach there. I again repeat this is only for healthy people. Because there is no plain area in Darjeeling. When I say walking in Darjeeling, it means hiking or climbing.
From the hostel, you will get an extraordinary view of Darjeeling town and Mount Kanchenjunga. I am telling this from my own personal experience. If you are traveling in a group then this place is perfect for you to stay as they have a dormitory where around 8 to 10 people can stay in one room. They can also arrange a vehicle for sightseeing if you tell them.

Diocesan Centre Guest House
Diocesan Centre Guest House is not a hostel. It is basically a guest house managed by the local C.N.I Church of Darjeeling. It is located at just 6 minutes walking distance from Darjeeling Railway Station. I have included this guest house in this blog article because of its price. They have dormitory rooms for which they charge only Rs 200 per bed.
I don't think you will get cheaper accommodation for staying in the entire Darjeeling town. In the case of other hostels you might have to climb up the mountain but this guest house is very close to the main road.
There are so many benefits of staying here but there's a small limitation which might make some people unhappy. Since it is managed by religious organizations, using any kind of intoxicants like alcohol, smoking,etc are strictly prohibited here. If you can compromise with this, then this place can be a great place for you to stay.

This hostel is situated away from the hustles and bustles of Darjeeling town. If you are a peace lover, then this hostel would be a perfect place for your accommodation.

- There is a water crisis in Darjeeling in an entire Darjeeling. So make right use of water. I mean to say that do not waste water unnecessarily. In some hostel you might not get drinking water. So in that case you might have to manage a drinking water by yourself.
- During winter, the temperature of Darjeeling goes to below 0°. If possible carry an extra blanket for you, as the hostel has a limited blanket which might be insufficient for you
