In this blog, I am going to tell you about one of the most underrated tourist attraction of Lower Assam, India. This place is basically a freshwater lake . The name of this lake is 'Urpad Beel' and It is located in a Goalpara district of Assam, India. Urpad Beel is the biggest natural lake of Lower Assam. 'Beel' is an Indian word which means a lake. It is situated near Agia, Which is around 9 km from Goalpara district of Assam. The natural landscape of this lake attracts thousands of tourists from different parts of Assam and other states of India every year. It is also known as 'Pink Paradise' of Lower Assam.

    How To Reach Here?

You can reach here by bus, train, flight or in any vehicle.

    By Bus

If you are coming by bus, then you have to come to a place named 'Agia'. You will get Bus for Agia from Guwahati, Bongaigaon and Dhubri. After reaching Agia you can either reserve a small vehicle to Urpad beel or you can take a public transport to the outskirts of Urpad beel. From there you can walk or take an E- rickshaw to the Urpad Beel. Since it is located in a little remote area, there is a little problem with direct public transport at present. but after a few years there will be direct public transport to the lake.

    By Train

If you are coming by train, then the nearest railway station is Goalpara Town (GLPT). But there is a minor problem. Since Goalpara Town is a small train station, only passenger trains and few express trains stop here. So If you are coming from outside Assam, just check if your train stops here or not. If your train doesn't stop here, then you can choose either New Bongaigaon (NBQ) or Guwahati (GHY) Railway Station.

From New Bongaigaon ( NBQ) railway, you will get a train for Goalpara ( GLPT) railway station everyday at 05:00 AM in the morning and 04:30 PM in the evening. In case you miss the morning train, then come out of the station and You will find many auto - rickshaws standing outside the station. Tell them that you want to go to Goalpara . They will drop you at Goalpara Bus stand. From there you will get a Bus for Goalpara. Get on the bus and tell the conductor that you want go to place named as 'Solmari'.
After reaching Solmari, you will find a lot of Autos. If you get a direct autos to the beel, it's better or else take an auto and come to Agia. From there you can reserve a vehicle. Basically, Urpad Beel view point is situated between Agia and Solmari.

In the same way, If you are coming from Guwahati, then you can take a passenger train to Goalpara, which leaves at 07:20 AM every morning from Guwahati Railway Station. If you miss that train, then you can come by bus. To take a bus, you have to come to Jalukbari Bus stand. From there you will get a Bus to Goalpara. Tell the bus conductor that you will go to Agia. After reaching Agia, you have to follow the same steps that I have mentioned above.

    By flight

If you are coming by flight, then you have to come to Guwahati Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. From there you can either reserve a vehicle directly to Urpad beel or come to Guwahati and then decide whether you want to take a train or bus.

    Hotels Near Urpad Beel

Since it is located in remote areas , there are no hotels for staying at present. But you will get a hotel for staying in Goalpara. If you reserve a vehicle, tell your driver to find a hotel for you. He will manage a hotel for you to stay. Or you can tell him to drop you at Goalpara. You will find plenty of hotels there.

Best Time To Visit Urpad Beel

You can come here at any time of the year. But I recommend you to come between October and March. Because the weather is very good at this time and lots of birds from different parts of the world migrate here at this time. So you can watch these birds, enjoy boating and spend plenty of time with Nature. It is better to skip during the rainy seasons. Because during rainy days, the water level of the lake rises and it may not be safe for boating.
Every year in the month of March, a festival is organized by the local people, who stay near the lake. During the festival, the lake is beautifully decorated and they show about their cultures, music, dance foods and many more. You can also visit at that time to experience this.
